Waiting for Another Man’s Resurrection

Waiting for Another Man’s Resurrection
Delivered by Pastor Matt, Loopwalker, Church of NORMAL

4.20.2025 – Resurrection Sunday

Good morning, survivors. Loopers. Custody dads. And anyone still trying to tell their story without getting excommunicated from brunch.

Today is Resurrection Sunday, and across the country, church stages are being swept, lilies arranged, family photos coordinated.

But here at the Church of NORMAL, we come to tell the truth.

And the truth is:
Some men didn’t rise today. They just sat still…
Waiting for another man’s resurrection.

I. The Sam Archetype: The Holy Waiter
“I’ve been praying for a wife for 20 yrs.”

Sounds noble. Sounds patient. Sounds righteous.

But patience, when weaponized by passivity, becomes a long con.

It’s not that you waited.
It’s what you waited for.

Some men aren’t looking for their soulmate.
They’re looking for a stressed-out Proverbs 31 wife
who finally snapped—
so they can slide in as the godly alternative.

“He that finds a wife finds a good thing.”
But you didn’t find her, Sam.
You collected her after a covenant fell apart.
You called the debris divine timing.

Let’s call it what it is:
Resurrection robbery.

II. The Sanctified Side Piece & the Cosmetic Gospel
You ever notice how Sam always shows up after the paperwork is filed?
Never during the counseling sessions.
Never during the 3 a.m. kid fevers.
Never during postpartum breakdowns or financial collapse.

But once she changes her Facebook status to “It’s Complicated,”
there’s a silent stampede of Saviors ready to help her “heal.”

He brings flowers.
He offers prayer.
He sends Scriptures that he never posted until he saw she was single.

“The Lord told me you were my wife.”
Bro. She was someone’s wife last Easter.

III. The Resurrection Timeline Doesn’t Excuse Theft
We celebrate today that Jesus walked out of the tomb.
But some of you are still standing next to a tombstone,
waiting for someone else’s resurrection to fail.

You’ve spiritualized your proximity.
But Sam, let me ask you:

Did you mourn with the man whose life you inherited?

Did you consider what it means to adopt a covenant, not initiate one?

Did you even ask God if He was still working in the grave?

IV. Trad Wife Escapes & Sanctified Clean-Up Crews
Let’s zoom out.

We live in a time where:

Wives who bore six children now say it was all trauma

Husbands who stayed faithful are accused of emotional tyranny

And deconstruction becomes a retroactive permission slip for betrayal

Then Sam shows up.

And because he:

Tithes

Holds the door

And hasn’t been divorced…

He gets treated like a reward for a woman’s endurance
instead of a mirror to her midlife crisis.

V. Jesus Didn’t Take Someone Else’s Bride
Let me remind you:

Jesus waited for a Bride too.
But not by standing next to someone else’s wife.
Not by hoping someone else would fail.
He laid down His life.
He carried the burden.
He endured the silence.
He was forsaken by the very ones He came for.

And when He came back
He didn’t start dating Mary Magdalene.

VI. Final Charge to the Men in the Shadows
To the custody dads
To the ex-evangelical husbands
To the men who stayed, who sacrificed, who washed feet in secret—

Your resurrection is not a public event.
But it is real.

And to the Saviors in-waiting:

Do not wait for another man’s failure to become your invitation.
Do not cloak pursuit as prayer.
Do not call the tomb “God’s will” when you never grieved the body.
